The 7h-Gold protects the 8h-piece , and enables the 2nd file Pawn exchange safely . Without 7h-Gold , if Sente exchanges the 2nd file Pawn ,Gote's Bishop dropping on 3c is a fork 2d-Rook and 8h-Silver .
